The NVR – GW Security GW7832N

The GW7832N NVR is a 32-channel system with the ability to record simultaneously to two hard drives. This is a great feature which will increase the resilience of your CCTV system.

The usual GW Security convenience features are available here also, making this NVR a really easy one to set up. The Pull-n-Fit system allows you to add up to two hard drives to the NVR without any trouble. Since the NVR also supports a 1-click plug-n-play setup using UPnP, its a breeze to get this system up and running. The NVR will automatically detect and set up all the IP cameras.

GW Security 8C8CH5091IP - 8 Channel NVR PoE IP Security Camera System - NVR Back Panel - NetworkCameraReviews

This NVR that can record at a maximum resolution of  8MP resolution. GW Security has updated the processor from the previous Hi3535 to the new Hi 3536 model.

I always look for NVRs that can support advanced motion detection. As long as you use the cameras that are provided with the NVR or other GW Security cameras, the NVR can detect them. An impressively rich variety of methods is supported:

  • Line crossing detection,
  • Area Intrusion detection,
  • Region Entrance,
  • Region Exiting,
  • Fast moving,
  • Unattached Object,
  • Object Missing,
  • Face Detection

This means you will be able to virtually eliminate false motion detection alerts.

Another feature that I expect as standard is ONVIF, the industry standard that allows CCTV equipment from different manufacturers to work together. Now you wont get all the advanced features inter-operating but basic motion detection should work. RTSP protocol support means that you can pull the feeds into your home automation system too!

The IP Camera – GW Security GW8837IP

The 8MP IP camera included in this kit is the GW8837IP model which supports advanced motion detection techniques – the same ones that the NVR supports. Perfectly matched and in balance, as all things should be.

The sensor is an IMX274 and the chipset is the Hi3516AV200. These are surprising specs to find, and I was very pleased to see the Sony IMX274 chip in there. Impressive. This sensor chip is a 1/2.5″ version rather than the more consumer type 1/3″ you find elsewhere.

The lens on this camera is a 2.8-12mm manual zoom lens. This gives you maximum flexibility when it comes to installation locations. After all you are buying 32 IP cameras of the same type, so you need a lot of flexibility.

The camera can encode video using the H.265 standard and it supports up to 10 Mbps bitrate. Just be careful with maxing the bitrate because you got to balance it with disk space requirements.

Power over Ethernet is supported by the cameras and the default method of hooking up cameras for this NVR kit. However the NVR itself doesn’t support PoE, but two PoE switches are included in the kit.
